A Korean, American, Russian and Scottish Walk Into a Cafe...

This is not a joke, it happened forreal the other week...

One of my favorite things about this type of community is that there are always people around from other countries.  My roommate from Tres Dias (http://defyinfinity.blogspot.kr/2016/05/tres-dias.html) was Scottish and she and I have stayed in contact with one another since our time together there.  Well, the other day she invited me to coffee with her and a woman from her church.  Actually it was two women from her church and one was Korean and the other was Russian.

All of our accents were very much different and it took some careful listening at times to make sure we caught what one another were saying.  I am used to the Korean accent because that has been what I am the most exposed to here for obvious reasons, additionally she is married to an American and lived in the US so she did not have as strong of an accent.  I am mostly used to the Scottish accent as well since I have been around her often enough to pick up on things and she is also married to an American and lived in the US.  I am not however used to the Russian accent (and she has not too much been around Americans).  I have only been around it a couple of times in my life that I can recall and not for any extended period.

The funny/not funny thing about it all was that the Russian lady shared how she really was not familiar with African people or Black American people anyway.  She briefly stated that really her only exposure had been President Obama and that was when she realized that Black people are intelligent and not only what she had heard.  She admitted that she previously thought that Black people were bad or scary since she had never met any and only knew what was told to her or what she saw on like tv or something along those lines.   I couldn't really be offended because I don't hear about Black people being in Russia and what I see in media and on the news isn't the best either so I can only imagine her surprise.

Sad but hey, that's what was true for her, what can you say?  What wonderful things have you heard about Russia or its people and how much time have you taken to research otherwise?

Ephesians 2:19-22 So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners.  You are citizens along with all of God's holy people.  You are members of God's family.  Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets.  And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.  We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.  Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.

Love ya,
Camille
