New Friends

Hi Everyone,

I recently attended another one of those painting gatherings where people get together and one person leads us all in painting some predetermined piece.  This one was more laid back than the previous one I attended some weeks ago.  This lady let us have a bit more liberty with how we did our paintings.  I'm really just not that great in this area but it was nice to hang out with my friend again who is more artistic and culturally minded.  She and I attended the Shakespeare play "Much Ado About Nothing" like a month ago in Seoul.  She is the same some I attended the ammeter reading with as well.  So this was our 3rd artistic activity together.  Her bubbly personality naturally went around and spoke to other people and she came across an airman that was planning to attend our church the next day!  It was great because I was then able to meet the 2 young ladies and walk with them to the church building the next day and they seemed to like it in comparison to the other congregations they have recently attended.  (It's really cool how God works things out!)

Additionally I was able to be present to witness her baptism a couple of weeks ago and it was an honor and blessing to attend.  It is the first time I have been to a baptism that is specifically for a person and she was overwhelmed with the out pouring of love she received from the Church!  LOVE IT :-)

People did unique silhouettes like the Paris skyline, dinosaurs, farms, and animals.

This was everyone at her baptism!

I miss my old friends but I am glad to make new friends along the way as well!

Celebrating From Here...

GO CAVS!!!

I am not a huge sports fan.  I don't like how much money and attention goes into sports.  Not just in the US but even on the international level.  Without fact checking I am pretty confident that from little kids to professionals we are in the billions dollar range as far as athletics so yea... Sport are just "eh" to me.  That being said I was pretty happy to watch the last couple of minutes of Game 7 and watch Cleveland win.  I was more happy for the fans than the team itself but happy none the less.

Daniel was at work while the game was on so he got to hear the score every now and then but didn't get to watch the game.  He is a true fan and wouldn't allow himself to get too excited.  He was very pessimistic and although he wanted the team to win and hoped the team won he tried to not get too excited.  Of course he was very happy that they won and here they played the game again in the evening so he was able to watch it our Monday night since he missed it when it originally played.  He wore his 1 Cavaliers' shirt that I bought him last year and we went out to eat to sort of celebrate.  Then he was able to come home and watch the game.

We see most of our friends on Facebook have posted about the win and celebrations and he seems sort of bummed to be missing it all.  Technology provides that sort of catch-22; good for staying in touch and getting info when you need it but then it also shows you what you're missing because life goes on without you when you're away.

After our celebratory dinner we got ice cream at the Baskin and Robin here and they had some interesting flavors... Do y'all have these flavors?

"Apple Mint"

"Veggie Fruits Sherbert"

"Green Tea" which is not weird but...

"Green Tea Tiramisu"

...and the cakes are super cool...

Accidental Mini Hike...

Hi Everyone,

Daniel and I took the bus up to Seoul the other day, once again just to get out and about.  We went to an area park but also were walking around in various neighborhoods.  Initially I thought we were just going to be in an area called Itaewon which is an area with lots of shopping, cafes, and restaurants.  We adventured beyond that area to a park where the accidental mini hike happened.

It wasn't a bad hike it was just that I was not wearing the appropriate type of pants (no stretch) and Daniel wasn't wearing the right type of footwear (sports sandals).  The air here feels thick.  I was told that this isn't even the worst of it since this is just the start of summer.  Apparently the summers here are extremely humid and hot.  I have been sweating just doing regular walking around base that normally wouldn't do anything.  I am not looking forward to the summer.

Here are some random pictures I took along our walk...

I guess this was considered the top.

Cool history info of the wall...

Some of the city view from the top. (Not the cleanest of air)

Korean graffiti...

So these signs were along the hike...  I assume it is telling us to beware of snakes although these snakes look very friendly in the picture.

Not sure if you can tell but that scaffolding is actually a car parking-elevator (not sure what the real terminology is and don't care enough to look it up.)

A view back to the park where we hiked over a residential area.

A dog clothing boutique.  I didn't go inside but from outside I could see that the clothes looked like animal costumes (sailing, tennis, etc.)

"Cookies may contain nuts or peanuts, even if not included in the ingredient list" in 24 different languages.  Looks like Subway must be like everywhere in the world.

Colossians 3:15-17
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.  For as members of one body you are called to live in peace.  And always be thankful.  Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.  Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives.  Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.  And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Okay well, that's life for now,
Camille

Walk About...

Hey Peeps,

Daniel and I went to Suwon the other day just to get out and about.  We basically just wanted to get out of the apartment and do something without exhausting ourselves.  Of course this had to be after he watched some NBA game :-P

Anyway, while walking around we came upon so many different restaurants.  Literally, we were walking down this one particular strip and building after building after building after building after building... was one restaurant after another.  Many were Korean but there were also American, Turkish, Thai, etc.  We both saw one that caught our eye.  It was called Melted Monkey and the pictures outside looked yummy!  If you have ever eaten at a restaurant in the States called "Melt" then you will understand when I say that was what we were expecting from this place.

It was kind of disappointing to be honest with you.  They were quite literally just grilled cheese sandwiches that we could have easily made at home and paid much less.  Mine had little tiny pieces of jalapeƱo peppers as did Daniel's but he got chicken and I got bacon.  I tasted and saw like no bacon on my sandwich.  The weirdest thing was that it seemed like the grill cheese had no flavor even though it was 4 different kinds of cheese...? The fries were good and those we both enjoyed.  I also liked my "cheese yogurt ice cream."  To me it tasted like cream cheese that was mixed with sugar and then frozen and turned into soft serve deliciousness.

We went on in search of a baby boy outfit to buy for my sister's baby.  She expressed that she was not interested in ROK baby boy clothes even though I think that they are super cute.  Even Daniel said no.  We found a simple outfit that Daniel and I both agreed on and looks very baby normal but still cute.

Also we stopped at a small ginseng shop.  Daniel told me that ginseng is supposed to be like a natural energy boost.  In the store we got what look like double shot sized bottles of Korean red ginseng tea.  It has a piece of ginseng root in it.  I think that it tastes like honey water with dirt (yes, as a child I tasted dirt and I am not ashamed).   Like dirt tea!?!

Anyway here a couple of pictures!

The restaurant was very small and cute.

Sweet Dirt Tea

Love always,
Camille
