Hey Peeps,
After being here for a few months now we finally made it to the street market. Any time I have planned to go I have not actually gone because something has come up. This time a friend called me up the day of and I happened to be able to go. The market is only on days of the month ending in a 4 or 9. Apparently there are markets on different days depending on the area. There is another market that is the 3/5 market but I'm not sure where it is located.
This one was walking distance so that was nice. It actually wasn't too far from the church. I was warned that it would be crowded and people were going to bump me unapologetically so I was prepared for mayhem. It actually was not what I was expecting, I wonder if it was because we went later in the day? Anyway we saw some interesting things live octopus and fish and some things that we are used to since being here like dried fish and squid.
Now that I know where it is and see that it is worth the trip I am going to try to be better at consistency in going. It was cheaper than shopping on base and people have said the food is also better. I think that it is probably healthier as well because it is like straight from the ground. The carrots I bought are massive but super dirty so that should be fun to wash. Also it was comforting to see the food without the wax that is on most of the produce in the States.
Toshia, who we went with, had me try a Korean honey pancake. YUM! It tasted like a funnel cake in the form of a pancake but with some sort of sweet honey concoction in the middle. I offered Daniel a bite and he accepted it hesitantly and did not seem to mind it but I thought that it tasted great. They have a vegetable one too that I'll have to try next time.

Different kinds of potato (I think?)...
These were just swimming around in this little bowl of water. It initially scared me because I wasn't expecting it to be there.
This is a picture (however poor) of pig legs.
These are some type of melon, I haven't tried them yet but you know I will :-)
I should have zoomed in to show you these dried dead beetles. I don't know about trying these!?!
Always willing to save money and help out their economy :-)
Camille
