So... Daniel and I were under the impression that we could live off of base. We were mistaken and so therefore we had slight attitudes.
The day started with us going to visit a real estate agency just off of base who took us to 4 apartments off base that were within walking distance. If you're ever in the area and looking for a place might I recommend REITs Realty Agency. We worked with Elvis and Anusha and they were very helpful (and gave me good coffee and a slice of yummy cake(yep, for breakfast, don't judge)). They drove us to the various places and I was able to take pictures.

They were all modern, as in no keys, you had to have a code to get in (great considering one of us loses keys easily). They were all 3 beds/2 baths, laundry, and included pretty much all the bills with the exception of gas/elec. and water. They included the internet, trash, elevator, covered parking and were simply furnished with modern styles. Three of them had roof top access and one had a large balcony. All of them were cheaper than base housing.
We made a decision on which apartment we wanted and then headed to base housing with the paper to have it approved by an inspector, only to find out that we are not allowed to move off of base. If we say that we don't want the apartment they offer then we have to start paying for our own hotel and still have to stay on base housing so, yea :-/
We checked out the on base apartment yesterday and found that it was not modern, at all, 2 beds/1 bath, old/used looking temporary furniture will be put in Thursday, and it takes all of our housing plus we pay separate for our internet. Unhappy us.
The morning was wasted and we have to stay in some crappy apartment. I had to read my bible because I was so irritated and came across this scripture which seemed appropriate.
1 Peter 2:13-14a, 18 (NLT)
13 For the Lord's sake, respect all human authority--whether the king as head of state, 14 or the officials he has appointed.
18 You who are slaves must accept the authority of your masters with all respect. Do what they tell you--not only if they are kind and reasonable but even if they are cruel.
We are a military family and the bottom line is that we do as we are told. We tried to assert ourselves to get what we wanted but we need to follow the rules. Anyway, this really is not a big deal in the grand scheme of life. It is obviously not what we want but it is not like an evil or intentional plot against us. Also there's the additional reminder that there are people that do not have housing at all or live in bad living situations in general so we just gotta accept and move on.
Here are pictures of the apartments we saw off base so you can see what we saw, kinda :-)
Lots of love,
Camille

This was Location #1 (my favorite, Daniel didn't like it as much) but it had no oven or dryer so they were going to fix those things.
This was Location # 2, which was the one that we chose before learning we couldn't move off base.
Location #3
And #4 was the cheapest but also my least favorite.
Lots of love,
Camille
