I guess that since I still have internet, as we wait for the other half of our traveling mates, I might as well write as much as I can while I can :-)
Sitting outside of the motel in the barbecue area with one of my travel mates, I just met a native Australian man from the outback. He informed me of his son who just got done traveling the globe after selling his $600,000 home. The man is Scottish in decent and said his family name and that they have their coat of arms (so cool) and the family name castle in Scotland. His son actually visited the castle and took pictures as well as bringing back a piece of the stone home to Australia. He explained how his son got emotional while at one of the holocaust locations in Germany and when in the Colosseum in Rome Italy. The son visited the US too and was in Philly, New York, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and places in between. He said that his preference was Australia of the places he visited. I observed that the places he went (with maybe the exception of New Orleans) are not the most welcoming cities in the US.
More pictures from my last trip to come (as soon as I can get them to upload on this slow Wi-Fi)

I talked with a man at my last hostel and he was from New
Zealand. He told me that the people in
Australia can be pretty racist. He said
it’s more common in the north and comes out more blatantly when people are
drunk (per usual). He appeared pretty
open to talking and I explained being stared at but that most of the racism
here seemed directed at the Aboriginal people and Asian people. He agreed as I went on about Australia not
having the same sort of slave history as the US. He cautiously said that he had been trying to
talk around that and appeared almost relieved that I was the one to bring it up
and not him. A sad history? Yes, but the reality of the basis of the
racism in the US for Black Americans.
Oh and in my conversations I was able to out rightly learn
what I suspected, the stars here ARE different!
The other night I saw so many stars it was amazing. I was unable to find
any familiar constellations and I couldn’t figure out if that was because of
there being so many stars or what. Now I
know that the stars are not the same since I’m in a different hemisphere. Cool right!?!
I look forward to seeing them all again soon J
(Random observed note… What we call “calories” in the US,
they call “energy” here in Australia.)
