I know at least one 'rent that will get a peak of irritation when reading this, love you daddy :-)
Anywho...
It was a long day, 6:30am at the bus stop and 6:00pm back at the hostel. I went white water rafting and let me just say WOW! It was my first time ever so I don't know what it's like in the US but man was it a beautiful, adventure packed, exciting, and exhausting experience. I of course had to do the most extreme option. The way the travel agent explained it made me feel like I needed to do the more intense option (great marketing). He asked if I wanted to do the, "XTREME! option or the other option." When you word it that way, I mean come on. Plus he let me know that as long as I can swim and can understand English I'll be okay, so Xtreme I chose.
We did level 3-4 rapids and some intentional flipping. Oh and jumped off of a couple cliffs/big rocks and one tree, and raft surfing. At a couple points we just got out and floated down the rapids and went over one natural water slide type thing. If you find yourself in Cairns I highly recommend booking the Xtreme Tully Raft with Raging Thunder Adventures. Everyone in the 4 separate rafts had so much fun and the staff was really friendly and fun. (As far as purchasing pictures that was not going to happen, just one picture cost $20!) I have no doubt that I will have bruises and scrapes tomorrow but they are battle wounds well worth the pain :-)
Our raft of 4 girls (and 1 male guide) definitely represented well. All of the other rafts had at least 2 guys including their guide. We were definitely the lightest raft and got knocked around quite a bit but we held our own. At one point of course there was a battle of the sexes with the raft of all guys. We tried and failed to splash them back as hard and even took down their guide at one point but in the end the guys swarmed our raft and pushed us all out. "A" for effort I say :-)
When we had time to look up there were waterfalls everywhere. GORGEOUS! We were on lava rocks a few separate occasions and there were the most beautiful butterflies. They were huge, like the size of a very small bird really and various shades of blue and black, white orange and yellow, black green and yellow. Fabulous sights!
Okay I'm exhausted, need to do laundry and need to figure out my next city to visit.
Miss your faces :-)
(Jeanie, I'll still need to try the place in WV you suggested when I get back to the States.)
